When someone books their first deep cleaning with DVL, they always ask what to expect. Fair question. First-time deep cleanings can feel like a big commitment.
Here is what I wish every homeowner knew before their first professional deep clean. Ten honest things from fifteen years in the business.
| You Do Not Have To | But You Can | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Deep clean before we arrive | Pick up loose items 10 min | We focus fully on cleaning |
| Be home during visit | Meet us for first visit | You know the team |
| Buy any products | Tell us of sensitivities | We match your household |
| Move furniture | Tell us of no-go zones | We respect your space |
| Explain everything | Tell us your priorities | We build to your needs |
MY RULE FOR NEW CLIENTS“Show me your home the way it really is. That is what we are here for.”
1. You Do Not Need to Clean Before We Come
Please, please, please stop cleaning before your cleaning service arrives. I know it feels natural. It is a habit ingrained since childhood. But when you clean before we come, you are throwing away money.
The whole reason you hired us is so you do not have to do the work. Show us your home the way it really is. That is what we are here for.
2. Tidy is Different from Clean
One thing that helps us is a quick tidy. Not a clean. Just picking up loose items like laundry piles, toys, and mail so we can reach surfaces to clean them. Ten minutes of tidying before we arrive lets us focus entirely on cleaning.
If you cannot tidy, that is fine too. We adapt. We work with what we walk into.
3. Deep Cleanings Take Longer Than You Think
A first-time deep cleaning of a 2000 square foot home usually takes our team of two people about six to eight hours. Sometimes more if the home has been unattended for a long time. This is normal. Do not be alarmed.
After that first deep clean, recurring maintenance cleanings take much less time. About three to four hours for the same home.
4. You Do Not Need to Be Home
Most of our long-term clients give us a key or a door code. They are not home for the cleaning. Our team is bonded, insured, and background-checked. Same team every visit. Familiar faces on your Ring camera.
If it makes you more comfortable to be home for the first visit, we love that. We enjoy meeting you and building the priority list together.
5. Special Requests Are Welcome
Have a beloved heirloom you want handled carefully? Tell us. Prefer we not touch a certain area? Tell us. Want us to focus extra attention on one specific room? Tell us.
We build a customized priority list for every home. If you need something specific, it goes on the list. We follow the list every visit.
6. Pet Safety Is Built In
If you have pets, they are welcome to stay home during the clean. Most pets get curious for the first ten minutes and then go back to their normal routine. Our team is pet-friendly and knows to keep doors closed and gates in place.
All our standard cleaning products are pet-safe. If your pet has allergies, tell us at booking and we will use eco-friendly alternatives.
7. Communication is How We Get Better
If something is not right after a visit, please tell us. We would rather know within 24 hours so we can come back and fix it than have you quietly stew about it for weeks. We do not charge for come-backs. It is part of our commitment to you.
Positive feedback is welcome too. Our team loves hearing what worked.
8. Recurring Cleanings Get Better Over Time
The first recurring cleaning after your deep clean will feel great. The second will feel even better. By the third or fourth visit, we know your home so well that we start to notice things you might not have thought to mention.
Consistency compounds. That is why we assign the same team to your home every visit.
9. Seasonal Add-Ons Are Worth Considering
Every quarter, consider adding one or two seasonal deep tasks to your recurring cleaning. Refrigerator interior. Oven interior. Under the couch cushions. Window tracks. Blinds. Ceiling fans.
These small quarterly additions keep your home in truly excellent condition all year without needing another full deep clean.
10. This Is a Relationship, Not a Transaction
At DVL Cleaning Group, we do not view any client as a one-time transaction. Every home we clean is a relationship we are building. Some of our clients have been with us for over a decade. We know their kids by name. We know the dog. We remember the anniversary of the family cat who passed away.
That is what we do. We take care of homes and the people who live in them. If you are ready to begin, we would love to meet you. If you are in Alexandria, Arlington, Tysons, or anywhere in Northern Virginia and the DMV, book your free consultation today.
See you soon.
